About Process
I have developed my own process when creating mono-prints, using newsprint and cartridge paper to mimic the typical binary between a plate and printed image. Despite the conventionalities surrounding print-making, I choose to display both the newsprint plate and printed image ('specimen' and 'image' as I have come to refer to them) as both are artworks whether connected or not. The process involves initially scrunching newsprint and inking this up in two steps: one; using the weight of the roller to pick out the harder creases, and two; using my force intuitively to pick out smaller details and cover the surface. After this, the newsprint plate is rolled through the etching press with the cartridge paper, creating a printed image. These series and configurations form enigmatic images that I intend for the viewer to investigate and contemplate.
